NEW RANGE OF COMPLETION EQUIPMENT

Ziel

This project consists in studying a new line of completion equipment to meet four main objectives :
- safety implementation when bringing wells into production
- increment of production capacity
- long exploitation life of equipment, despite hostile a environment (corrosion and abrasion by effluent)
- reduction of exploitation costs by using different production modes.
Presently the line of products on the market is all US brand and of old design, while in this project, a new technology is used, the originality of which is bound to the polyfunctional features of its different components, in particular latching and sealing
systems. The latter will be similar for each equipment within this new line of completion equipment.
SAFETY VALVE ASSOCIATED WITH A CONCENTRIC GAS-LIFT SYSTEM
The new latching device (hydraulically activated successfully tested in Baker B landing nipple both in Total Handil field has proved its long term reliability.
A new latching device has been studied in order to install the valve in CAMCO BP-6 landing nipple (nominal size 3 1/2).
The prototype of the latch for XL Otis nipple has been successfully tested in workshop. But after discussions with Wireline Specialists it appears that it is better to leave the dogs floating and to latch them hydraulically when they set in landing nipple profile and the study has to be completely resumed. Other diameters have also to be studied and latching devices from other manufacturers profile have also to be designed.
The design of a stinger to be installed inside the Xmastree and to be retracted in order to close the two Xmastree valves was given up to be replaced by a new type of hanger which will be installed below the Xmastree. This designis under process.
SURFACE CONTROLLED SUBSURFACE SAFETY VALVE (SCSSV) WIRELINE RETRIEVABLE
API tests (Spec. 14A) were passed successfully for nominal size 3 1/2 and 4 1/2 in South West Research Institute in San Antonio (Texas). Sandy test (Class II) was missed for 4 1/2 nominal size valve and 3 1/2 nominal size valve passed without equalization system implied that all performance tests must be taken again.
3 1/2 and 4 1/2 sizes seated in Baker B landing nipple profile are presently under long duration test in Total Indonesia (gas field) and in Elf Angola (high temperature wells).
Other diameters have also to be studied and latching devices for other manufacturers profile have also to be designed.
SAFETY VALVE FOR ROD PUMPING WELLS
Good results were obtained with a valve which can be installed at 3000 ft depth with no pressure inside the tubing but not field testing could be organized due to lack of interest of potential users.
ANNULAR SAFETY PACKERS
Tests were made with inflatablepacker in our workshop. Equipment is presently on longduration field testing with Gaz de France but the rubber manufacturer used to make the envelope is not anymore interested in developing other diameters and therefore the study has to be resumed completely by resorting to another manufacturer with a different technology.
CIRCULATING VALVE
It is now proved that a study has to be undertaken with metal/metal sealing system in order to keep a long term reliability (as long as the well life).
TUBING RETRIEVABLE SAFETY VALVE
Same remark as for the circulating valve.
The main completion equipment aimed at in this project are the following :
- Safety valve associated with a concentric gas lift system
- Subsurface controlled subsurface safety valve (SCSSV) wireline retrievable
- Safety valve for rod pumping wells
- Annular safety packers
- Circulating valve
- Tubing retrievable safety valve.
The project will consist of integrating polyfunctional systems in each equipment, to meet safety, reliability and simplicity of use in the field of requirements. The project development will consist in the 3 running stages :
- Engineering study
- Prototype manufacturing
- Cell and field testing
Prototypes of these equipments are made for the purpose of destructive tests, cell and field testing to obtain API certificate (14A specifications).
