Terahertz Photonics for Communications, Space, Security, Radio-Astronomy, and Material Science

Project description

Training in the field of THz photonics

Thanks to state-of-the-art terahertz (THz) science and technology, photonic techniques today have enabled the ultra-high capacity wireless distribution and transmission of data using signals at millimetre-wave and THz frequencies, paving the way for novelty applications based on non-destructive evaluation in biomedical diagnosis, security, space technologies and wireless communications, to name but a few. To that end, the EU-funded TERAOPTICS project aims to train 15 new-generation early-stage researchers in the field of THz photonics. The training programme will offer inspiring research, intellectual, scientific and technical transferable skills, with the aim of creating an excellent, creative, internationally renowned, interdisciplinary and intersectoral network of academic and non-academic partners in a professional environment.

Objective

The overarching objective of TERAOPTICS is to provide high-level training in the field of THz Photonics to a new generation of high achieving early stage researchers to provide them an inspiring research program and intellectual, scientific, technical and transferable skills trainings to enhance their career opportunities in academia and industry and to create the new generation of excellent, creative and risk-taking researchers and engineers. This goal will be achieved by a unique, internationally renowned, interdisciplinary and inter-sectorial network of academic and non-academic beneficiaries and partners providing both formal (workshop-style) and informal (hands-on) research training in a most stimulating professional environment, non-academic placements and scientific conferences.
