ELECTROCHEMICAL PRETREATMENT OF FUEL FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES

Ziel

Demonstrate that the installation of a thermal treatment unit for diesel fuel in an internal combustion engine produces :
- a substantial fuel saving
- a notable reduction of contaminating emissions
and consequently a major flexibility in transport and in thus prolonging the life of the motor's various components.
Production phase. The first prototypes are available, manufactured according to technical information contained in the project. Production of these was done according the following plan :
- basic design
- optimisation of parameters
- selection of materials
- delivery and quality control
- manufacturing
- quality control
The resources used were :
1.1. equipment design
a) mechanical : concise plans, part tolerances
b) electrical : calculation and optimisation of resistance elements
c) electronic : design and adjustment of control and power elements
1.2. Selection of materials, management and determination of specifications.
1.3. Optimisation of manufacturing phase.
1.4. Execution of operational plan
- delivery of raw materials
- quality control
- cutting, turning, drilling and final mechanisation of components:
- sensors
- taps & threads
-tube sections
- etc...
- casting of the ZAMAK
- manufacturing of the casing
- machining of the ZAMAK-casing
- assembly by means of controlled casting and
mechanical compression
- installation of electronic components.
Once the units have been manufactured they will be assembled in the designated vehicles. The installation has involved the modification and adaptation of the entrance and exit couplers of the equipment to adapt them to the cooling circuit of the vehicles.
The results obtained from the installed equipment are as yet provisional. They are listed below :
MOTOR IVECO 190-36, 360 CV, YEAR 1988.
Test running on the spot
Duration : 1 hour
Consumption : 1.9 litres
Test running on the road :
293 km of mileage with a consumption of 67.75 litres.
Abstract :
Test of acceleration : 30
Have also been installed in units in VOLVO F10, PEGASO and MERCEDES 0303 (giving savings of 30 litres of fuel witha mileage of 1,160 km).
The first phase consists of the production of the thermal pre-treatment equipment for the fuel. This equipment consists of two heating units, of different design and function, placed between the filter and the carburettor or injection pump.
The first unit will use the heat of the cooling water together with an additional heating element, to constitute a complete thermally isolated system.
The principal heating unit consists of a spiral fuel pipe enclosed in an insulated case. The electrical heating element is connected to an electronic programmer which will disconnect the unit when the desired temperature is obtained.
This programmer will control relays which will activate, starting or disconnecting the required control unit, according to the characteristics or conditions established as a function of the fuel, the outside temperature and the cylinder size of the motor. In a second phase these units will be installed in the assigned vehicles, modifying the design parameters in accordance with the characteristics of each vehicle.
By means of the follow-up and verification programmes, fuel savings thus obtained can be compared and consequently the reduction of contamination established.
