Information dissemination, marketing and communications for SME's based on Internet models and tools

Ziel

This proposal document describes the creation of a novel information service based upon the Internet, in particular the World-Wide-Web (WWW). The idea is to set up a Pan-European information service using WWW servers targeted to the promotion of SMEs within the textile industries to world-wide interested Internet users (customers). The prospective customers will have free access to the information whilst it is expected that SMEs who want to promote themselves will have to pay for the service. To keep the customers from getting lost or being overloaded with information, the service will be organised into sectors reflecting the business area of the SMEs. The added value of the service, apart from the on-line dissemination of the information, will be to:

- provide sector moderators which will be responsible for organising the information according to sectors and maintain an appropriate setting where company information can be seen alongside offerings from other related organisations.

- provide an expert service for the professional presentation of the relevant information in the standard WWW format i.e. HTML. The information content will include: Company Profile, offered products and services, contact details, etc. and will be in a multimedia format. In the case that a given SME is connected to the Internet, hyperlinks will be provided in order that the end user of the services (i.e. the customer) can contact the SME e.g. by sending an on-line Email message or by connecting to the SME's WWW server, or any other service (e.g. database), etc.

- promote and/or provide dynamic information forthetextile industry such as newsletters (e.g. High-performance textiles, Medical textiles), links to other textile databases (e.g. World Textiles), magazines (e.g. Habit), literature (e.g. Textile Technology Digest), market reports, TED, etc.

- provide links to listserves, mailing lists and newsgroups relevant to the textile industry.

- provide links to other textile-related WWW servers (e.g. WWW fashion page).

- a mail-box facility and a bulletin board system will be implemented in cooperation with EURATEX/COMITEXTIL.

This project will set the foundations for contacting business in the new Information Society age and will directly compete with similar activities planned for launching in the US. Future developments will include the capability of contacting electronic trading directly through the proposed service.
