Viscoelastic and elastoplastic damage behaviour of filament winding composite shells under multiaxial static and dynamic loads

Objective

The goal of this study is a contribution to render the Filament Windin Technology a manufacturing process for primary composite parts, by increasing the characteristics and predicting the damage behaviour of manufactures through theoretical modelling and numerical simulation. What will be considered is the elastoplastic and viscoelastic damage behaviour for different load configurations, as internal-external pressure and traction-compression loads, by developing a theoretical-numerical model. In this way, it will be possible to increase the reliability of these materials by controlling their global behaviour under realistic working conditions.
Moreover, by considering damage and manufacturing defects it will be possible to control their influence upon the mechanical characteristics of the structure.
With this study it could be possible to predict the residual life of a damaged structure in order to avoid catastrophic crashes, which imply more cost, more lost, and more pain! It will also be possible the minimisation of scraps during the production cycle, which implies less production cost, and consequently lower price for the consumer.
The applications of this study are numerous: whole composite aircraft, considering that composite structures are extremely light; big tanks for liquid transportation applications, considering their high resistance to corrosion, and also tubes for drinkable water; fishing rods for their big flexibility and resistance; composite car bodies for a combination of characteristics and a very high surface finishing, e.t.c.
