SOLGREEN MESSE BASEL - PHOTOVOLTAIC POWER PLANT IN COMBINATION WITH "GREEN ROOFS "

Ziel

Flat roofs can easily be equipped with a vegetation as roof surface. Many cities require that for better water management in order to lower drain water peaks. It is important to show and demonstrate, that such roofs can also be used for photovoltaics. The combination with green roofs creates also benefits to the photovoltaic system itself. using the substrate for the plants as weight foundation for the solar panels helps to save materials and the PV modules under all weather conditions as well as the specific needs because of the green roof. the proposed Solgreen-System allows an easy use of conventional grass cutting machines.
Planned photovoltaic peak power : 300 kWp Estimated annual energy production : 270000 kWh

The planned solar generator has a nominal power capacity of 300 kWp and will be the biggest building integrated power plant in Switzerland for the time being. it is located on the flat roof of the new exhibition hall of Messe Basel. Every year 20-30 exhibitions are organised which are visited by about 1 Million people.
The used system is called "SOLGREEN", which means the combination of photovoltaics with the green roof cover. A special mounting structure is going to be used which involves metal tubes combined with mats to use the weight of the organic layer as a load and anchors for the PV panels. It is an easy and low cost way to mount photovoltaic modules on flat roofs and it takes care of the aesthetic aspects with a green roof in the middle of the city of Basel. Minimised amount of materials are spent reducing the energy pay back time the exact system structure is not yet defined. It is subject to call for tender.
