Awareness in early-stage dementia. understanding, assessment and implications for early intervention (AWARE)

Variations in awareness of impairment among people with early-stage dementia have important implications for the development of psychosocial early intervention strategies designed to improve the management of dementia and to enhance well being and quality of life for people with dementia and their families. Dementia researchers, clinicians, and NGO representatives including people with dementia and family caregivers will participate in three workshops over an 18-month period in order to review existing evidence, reach consensus about an appropriate theoretical and methodological approach to assessing awareness of impairment, and develop an RTD proposal for a European study. In addition, scientific papers will be prepared, and information will be widely disseminated.
