Creating a long term infrastructure for marine biodiversity research in the european economic area and the newly associated states

Objective

We propose to create a European Marine Biodiversity Network of marine scientists with links to the different stakeholders in marine biodiversity issues, from the EU-EEA and the Newly Associated States, that prepares and exploits the possibilities of the next framework programme and the European Research Area, improves the infrastructure for marine research and its utilization by scientists, and increases the visibility of marine biodiversity issues for science managers, politicians and other end users, including the public at large. MARBENA will perform the following activities:
To develop a network and open its activities and engages cooperation with any interested partner, including museums of natural history, universities and government laboratories;
to create a long-term research infrastructure,
to create visibility for marine biodiversity issues and
maintain the network via: communication with other initiatives, internet, (electronic) conferences, workshops, and projects.
