Electromagnetic compatibility between rolling stock and rail-infrastructure encouraging European interoperability

Objetivo

The RAILCOM specific targeted research project is directed at research domain 2.7 of the objective "Advanced design and production techniques". Focusing on the vehicle-infrastructure interfaces, especially on the TEN-T railway network, the RAILCOM project will provide practical and harmonised solutions to EMC issues and in this way will contribute to railway interoperability. The objectives of the project are: * harmonisation of interference limits for train detection systems on TEN-T railway network; * cha racterisation of the railway electromagnetic environment for communication systems, with correlation between EM emission and operating conditions of the system; The research activity, including modelling and measurements, will be focused on train detection and communication systems. Harmonised calculation methods will be identified and validated through appropriate test campaigns. Strong effort will be made in order to favour harmonisation of interference limits and methods for determination of limits of tr ain detection systems, overcoming the barriers imposed by national regulations and practice. The EM of the railway systems will be related to its operating conditions, in order to enable to forecast electromagnetic emission on the basis of the characterist ics of the systems and to assess interference with communication systems. * Modelling/measurement techniques will be largely based on the know-how gained in other recent projects (ESCARV) and available in the expertise of the participants. The results of o ther projects (EMCRail, EMC-ARTS) will be a starting point for the project. Consortium structure, including the organisational Key Players, as well as work with the ESC Information Data Bank and EUR2EX will ensure an adequate dissemination of the achieveme nts of the project in the European Railway Community. The dissemination plan also assumes that the results of the project will be used as an input to EN50121, EN50238 and related TSIs.
