Low-Cost IC Prototyping Services for European SMEs

Objective

The CHIP-SHOP project aims to reduce the costs, time-to-market and risks involved with first-time ASIC usage by European SMEs.

This will be done by organising regular MPW runs and recommending easy-to-use, well-proven design flows for ASICs and FPGAs to support competence centres (SCCs), commercial design houses and directly to SMEs. The SCCs and design houses will offer training and design assistance to the SMEs. The ASIC design prototyping will be organised by CHIP-SHOP. After initial prototyping with CHIP-SHOP's assistance, SMEs will then be able to transfer to commercial silicon vendors for volume production. In this way the project plans to mobilise existing networks of support and competence centres and commercial design houses to provide European SMEs with a cost-effective way of accessing various silicon technologies (such as CMOS, BiCMOS and FPGAs).
