Evaluation of LAminate composite Distortion by an Integrated Numerical-Experimental approach

Project description

Understanding composite distortion during processing

In materials science, a composite laminate is an assembly of layers of fibrous composite materials. These materials are bonded together to give added strength, durability and provide required engineering properties. Laminates are usually based on four main materials: wood, glass, fabric, and paper. The EU-funded ELADINE project is developing a method to evaluate the distortion of laminate composites in a number of scenarios. This includes test coupons manufacturing, measurements of distortion and its correlation to a numerical tool for the evaluation of a sub-scale demonstrator, and finally, a full seven-metre composite wing.

Objective

Evaluation of LAminate composite Distortion by an Integrated Numerical-Experimental approach
The consortium is proposing a method to evaluate the distortion of laminate composites in a number of scenarios, starting from test coupons manufacturing, measurements of distortion and correlation to the numerical tool that will evaluate a sub-scale demonstrator and in the end a full 7 meter composite wing.
