Objective
To develop and test a new combined diesel and steam process. High temperature and high-pressure steam will be injected into the combustion chamber. By utilising the air and cylinder cooling and exhaust heat to generate steam, the method has a potential of a substantial increase of the thermal efficiency (reduction of CO2) and at the same time control the formation of emission (NOx). A medium risk project that needs generic innovative research in spray combustion with high concentration of steam. A full-scale laboratory engine test will determine if the STID combustion concept is viable.
