The European Commission, DG XI, has published an invitation to tender for the monitoring of progress in the environmental fields in assisting the accession of the EU applicant countries of Central and Eastern Europe and Cyprus. The aim of the contract is to assist the Commission in gathering information on progress in transposing the environmental acquis communautaire in the applicant countries of Central and Eastern Europe and Cyprus. It will also assist the relevant national governments in monitoring their own progress. This project will follow on from an existing project, which assists the various environment ministries to complete tables of concordance, report on progress, and develop a handbook for progress monitoring. The second phase will focus on monitoring the implementation of EU environmental legislation. The proposed contract will run for a period of 24 months.
