The European Commission, DG V, has published an invitation to tender concerning a study on the development and validation of scientific indicators on the relationship between criminality, social cohesion and economic growth. The aim of the study is to convert the results of research carried out on criminality into operational indicators. This would enable the interactions between crime, social cohesion and the socio-economic situation to be highlighted and an evaluation to be made of the negative impact of crime on economic growth and job creation. The aim is to address the current situation, highlighted by the European Parliament in 1993, of the absence of sufficiently precise statistical data on the different types of crime, and its estimation of a positive correlation between organized crime and economic development. The duration of the contract would be no longer than 12 months.
