A key element of the EU's strategy to develop Europe's innovation culture is raising awareness and spreading information. CORDIS, the Community Research and Development Information Service, is itself a part of the INNOVATION programme, and has developed a range of services on the World Wide Web dedicated to providing information on the EU's activities in the field of innovation. These services will continue to be developed and extended as the Fifth Framework Programme comes on-stream, and will provide the most up-to-date information on the new Programme as well as the implementation of the First Action Plan for Innovation in Europe. Here are pointers to some of these innovation services on CORDIS: INNOVATION homepage: this provides direct access to all the activities and services supported by the INNOVATION programme, which was established within the Fourth Framework Programme (1994-1998) to focus on the dissemination and exploitation of research results. http://cordis.europa.eu/innovation/home.html Technology Transfer and Technology Validation projects: here you can find details of a range of projects aimed at developing methodologies for enabling the transfer and validation of new technologies. http://cordis.europa.eu/tvp/home.html The European Innovation Monitoring System (EIMS) supports the study and evaluation of new technologies and innovative processes, with the aim of spreading information on best practice and innovative techniques. http://cordis.europa.eu/eims/home.html Financing innovation provides information on sources of funding for high-technology businesses with innovative products. Targeted at both investors and businesses, this service will help to foster the understanding of each others' worlds which is needed to bring in the money for innovation. http://cordis.europa.eu/finance/home.html Increasing awareness of innovation: this service looks at projects which have sought to involve the public in discussions on technological development, with the aim of securing widespread acceptance in advance of the introduction of new technologies and processes. http://cordis.europa.eu/awareness/home.html Other activities about which information can be found on the INNOVATION homepage include: - Regional Innovation and Technology Transfer Strategies and Infrastructures (RIS and RITTS), encouraging regions to develop their innovation capabilities; - European Networks and Services, developing networks across national and professional boundaries to encourage innovation; - Innovation Management Techniques, identifying and promoting best practice in techniques for managing innovation in companies. CORDIS also gives access to information on European Union innovation policies, on the services supported by the INNOVATION programme, including CORDIS, the Innovation Relay Centres (IRCs) and Organizations for the Promotion of Energy Technologies (OPETs), on the RTD Help Desk, and to information on intellectual property issues.
