The European Commission, DG XI, has published an invitation to tender for a study, concerning the identification and description of the relevant fields of use of each of the 23 biocidal product types covered by Directive 98/8/EC which lays down the rules for placing biocidal products on the market. This is in order to allow industry to communicate to the Commission the quantity of active substances placed on the market for different fields of uses. The aim of the study is to establish scores indicative of the exposure of humans (direct/indirect)and the environment to biocidal products, in order to rank the 23 products types and their relevant fields of use. The study will not take into consideration the hazardous properties of the active substances contained in the biocidal products. The study should be completed within six months.
