Research and innovation activities in Picardie in northern France, and Upper Austria will gain greater publicity thanks to two new information services just launched on CORDIS. The new services aim to highlight the research strengths of these regions and provide details of opportunities of interest to researchers and industry from around Europe. The launch of the Picardie and Upper Austria services brings to five the regions covered by CORDIS, and with more regional sites in development the foundations for a valuable new dimension to the CORDIS service are in place. Pioneered by Piemonte earlier in 1998, the CORDIS regional services are each developed in partnership between regional authorities and development agencies, and CORDIS, the European Community R&D Information Service. The new services focus on the research activities and infrastructure in each region, highlighting specialities and promoting cooperation and technology transfer opportunities. Research infrastructure in Picardie and Upper Austria is introduced in the new services, with major research activities carried out in the regions explained in greater detail. Participation of organisations from these regions in EU-funded research is discussed, and a regularly updated spotlight will focus on specific case studies of projects from those regions. An important feature provided by each regional service is the contacts and links sections, allowing users to get direct access to companies and organisations from that region. The services also give details of the networks and services, such as technology brokers and Innovation Relay Centres, which support research and innovation in each region.
