Legislation on the safety of toys is laid down in Directive 88/378/EEC (OJ No L 187 of 16.7.1988 p.1) and was amended by Directive 93/68/EEC (OJ No L 220 of 30.8.1993 p. 1). In order to ensure the effective implementation of this legislation, the European Commission, DG III, has issued prior information of a forthcoming invitation to tender. The objective of this call for tender will relate to the provision of technical reports linked to the activities of the group of bodies notified under the legislation. The contractors would also assist the Commission in technical matters relating to the implementation of the Directive, such as national restrictive measures taken by Member States against CE-marked toys. Specific technical reports on this subject would be prepared and submitted to the Commission. The invitation to tender is likely to be published around 31 August 1998.
