Educational technology development in France

A new project for the development of educational technology has recently been launched. The "Cyber-collèges" project, which will be funded under the EU's Telematics Application programme, aims to equip and connect all schools and colleges of the Alpes-Maritime region in France with multimedia technology. The training of teachers and the creation of partnerships with multimedia companies will also feature among the aims of the project.

The action will be implemented by a mixed consortium of telecommunications and multimedia companies who will coordinate three types of action:

- Providing one multimedia computer for every ten pupils in college, one per class in secondary schools, as well as equipping 60 libraries located in rural areas;

- Installing television reception facilities in mountainous areas;

- Creating an Extranet network between all local authorities to facilitate the exchange of information and the simplification of administrative procedures.
