Optimisation of environment and related energy utilisation in scrap-based steel-making
The European Commission, Directorate General XII, has recently published a report entitled "Optimisation of environment and related energy utilisation in scrap-based steel-making: Phase II". The publication is the final report for this study, which aimed to investigate and verify possible solutions for controlling dioxin emissions from the scrap melting process in the electric arc furnace, and possibilities to reduce energy losses and to optimise energy recovery from the process. The report concludes that the project results indicate that the injection method using pulverised brown coal has proved to be a suitable process for reducing emissions of dioxins.
