Materials research EEIG
The Commission publishes notice of the formation of a European Economic Interest Grouping (EEIG) in the field of materials research. The grouping, which is established in Delft, is named "European Materials Research Consortium EEIG". EEIGs are based on a legal instrument created by Council Regulation 2137/85/EEC of 25.7.1985 (OJ No L 199 of 31.7.1985) which facilitates cross-frontier cooperation between firms engaging in certain joint activities such as research and development, purchasing, production, sales, computerized data processing and the formation of multidisciplinary consortia to tender for public or private contracts. The EEIG structure allows economic agents to cooperate with partners based in other Community countries for the realization of a specific project, in a flexible form of association and on an equal footing in the legal domain, while maintaining their economic and legal independence. In particular, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) find this framework offers a number of advantages.
