The Commission of the European Communities invites proposals for concerted actions and accompanying measures in the context of the specific research and technology development programme in the field of biomedicine and health (1990-1994). The present call covers areas 1, 2 and 4 of the workprogramme: - Area 1: Development of coordinated research on prevention, care and health systems. Harmonization of methodologies and protocols in epidemiological, biological, clinical and technological research (drugs and administration of medicines, risk factors and occupational medicine, biomedical technology, health services research). - Area 2: Major health problems and diseases of great socioeconomic impact (AIDS, cancer, cardiovascular disease, mental illness and neurological disease, the ageing process and age-related health problems and handicaps). - Area 4: Research on biomedical ethics (involving problems relating to research carried out in areas 1-3 and to the possible applications of research results). Research areas and topics will be addressed, in general, via concerted action research and technology development projects (the Community will contribute up to 100% of the costs relating to the coordination of the RTD). In addition there will be topics which are to be undertaken as accompanying measures. Project proposals may be submitted to the Commission by interested legal research entities (research institutions, universities and enterprises) which are located in the Community or, under certain special conditions, in other countries. Each project must include at least two mutually independent partners established in different Member States.
