The European Commission, Directorate-General X, has issued a list of the 137 successful projects for 1999 in the Jean Monnet Project, as follows: - Italy (28); - France (20); - United Kingdom (18); - Germany (17); - Spain (15); - Greece (9); - Portugal (6); - Austria (5); - Finland (5); - Denmark (3); - Ireland (3); - Sweden (3); - Belgium (2) - The Netherlands (2); - Luxembourg (1). The Jean Monnet Project co-finances universities to establish Jean Monnet Chairs, Jean Monnet permanent courses, Jean Monnet modules in European law, European economy, political studies of European construction, and the history of European integration. It also supports the creation of Jean Monnet Centres of Excellence. The Jean Monnet Project assists DG X in supporting academic initiatives that contribute to spreading and transmitting knowledge on European integration and the European Union.
