The Commission of the European Communities issues an invitation to apply for membership of the European network of BC-NET advisers with a view to expanding the network within the Community. BC-NET was launched by the Business Cooperation Centre in 1988 with computer facilities at the CEC, aimed at promoting financial and technological cooperation. Via a European network of over 600 advisory/specialist agencies, BC-NET facilitates searches for business partners on an inter-regional and cross-frontier basis. It uses a specific nomenclature and has dealt with a large number of cooperation requests covering every type of activity and a wide range of cooperation in commercial, financial and technical areas - A business adviser is a person who, in accordance with national laws and regulations, is engaged in the task of helping firms, particularly SMEs, to identify cooperation opportunities, and who is in direct contact with the firms concerned, knowing them well enough to be in a position to judge their activities and requirements. - A intermediary is a person with a network of local advisers who provide consultancy services to firms with a view to identifying cooperation opportunities. Advisers and intermediaries are located mainly in the Community, but also in a growing number of other countries.
