The European Commission's Joint Research Centre is inviting tenders for a study contract on the prevalidation of trans-epithelial resistance and inulin permeability as end points in in vitro nephrotoxicity testing. Biological barriers and nephrotoxicity are areas of particular interest to commissioning body ECVAM, the European Centre for Validation of Alternative Methods. ECVAM's goal is to promote the scientific and regulatory acceptance of alternative methods in the biosciences, especially those which minimise the use of laboratory animals. The study would complement work being carried out to develop screening procedures which rapidly and reliably detect xenobiotic-induced toxicity in the renal epithelium.
