The European Commission, DG XVII, has published a call for expressions of interest for members of the Coal Research Committee and technical committees in the field of coal. The Commission is seeking to appoint experts - on a personal basis - to a number of technical committees, and the Coal Research Committee, set up within the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) Coal Research programme. Members of the Coal Research Committee are required to advise the Commission on coal research policy, collaborate in drawing up research programmes, and give opinions on the yearly selection of research proposals made by the Commission. Furthermore, they should keep the Commission informed of progress in research carried out in the Member States, and carry out a critical examination of the results of the coal research programme. Members are sought for the following technical committees: - Mining operations; - Mine infrastructure and management; - Coal preparation; - Coal conversion; - Coal combustion and gasification. Their duties will include providing technical advice to the Commission and to the Coal Research Committee, and they will be expected to participate actively in meetings held to assess progress reports and final reports of ECSC research projects, and generally to follow and assist in the execution of research projects. Some members may also be asked to participate in the evaluation of research proposals. Members must have professional experience of at least ten years following graduation in one of the fields covered by the technical committees, as set out above. They would be appointed for a mandate of three years, and will not be paid, other than the reimbursement of travel and subsistence expenses. Applications must be made on the official form, which may be obtained from: European Commission DG XVII - Energy Unit D.2 - ECSC 200 rue de la Loi (TERV 05/12) B-1049 Brussels Fax +32-2-2966016 E-mail: christel.swartenbroekx@bxl.dg17.cec.be
