EuroISPA appoints new president
The European Internet Service Providers Association EuroISPA has appointed Jean Christophe Le Toquin as its new president, following the successful tenure of outgoing president Michael Schneider. Objectives of the association include protecting and promoting the interests of Europe as a whole within the global Internet; helping deliver the benefits of this new technology to individuals; and encouraging and developing a free and open telecommunications market. Mr Le Toquin, has been the spokesperson for AFA, the French ISP association for over two years, during which time he has made important contributions to establishing EuroISPA as the voice of the European internet industry. He has served as a Council member of EuroISPA and worked closely with bodies such as Global Business Dialogue, UNESCO, the Council of Europe and INHOPE. He said: 'I intend to carry on Michael Schneider's good work and continue to ensure that EuroISPA provides a strong voice for the Internet in Europe. 'On a European level, EuroISPA now has a vital role to play in ensuring that regulation of the Internet and electronic commerce is developed in a way which will maximise European potential through a minimum of bureaucracy. 'Over the course of the next few months there are a number of challenges, with the Council of Ministers producing their common positions on the Electronic Commerce Directive and the Copyright Directive as well a variety of new legislation in the pipeline'
