A support service is required to run the Prometeus project, set up in March 1999 to promote multimedia access to education and training in Europe, and supported by the European Commission. The support service is foreseen to provide high-quality start-up support within the Prometeus partnership, which includes over 400 signatory organisations. Funded under the Information Society Technologies programme, the support service is to provide a 'professional, results-oriented, innovative, flexible and energetic support for the creation and take-up of significant Prometeus partnership results. The Prometeus support service provider can be a distributed support network consortium or a single service provider, and should support the activities of Prometeus signatories, steering committee and special interest groups in achieving the required objectives. The Information Society Directorate-General of the European Commission has launched a call for tenders for the Prometeus support service to cover a two year period, expected to start in early 2000.
