Proposal for Council Decision adopting a supplementary programme involving the high flux reactor
The European Commission has submitted a proposal to the Council of the European Union for the implementation of a supplementary programme on the operation of the high flux reactor (HFR) for a period of four years, beginning 1 January 2000. The HFR is situated at the Joint Research Centre in Petten, The Netherlands. It is one of the principal means available to the Euratom RTDT Fifth Framework Programme to support and test medical diagnostic and therapeutic methodologies, to the development of materials sciences, and to problems solving in the field of nuclear energy. If adopted, the financial contributions will come from the Netherlands, Germany and France, and will amount to about 39 million euro, including the future decommissioning of the reactor. The European Commission will be responsible for carrying out the programme through its Joint Research Centre, and will each year submit to the Council, the European Parliament and the Economic and Social Committee, a report on the implementation of this Decision.
