The Environment Directorate-General is commissioning a study which covers the identification of water quality standards for the priority substances under the proposed water framework directive. The study will focus basically on methodological assessment and the derivation of a proposal for water quality standards for the priority substances. The water quality standard has to cover surface water, sediments and biota. The standards will determine the good chemical status in European waters under the future water framework directive.
