Europe-wide mobility at the heart of cardiovascular research
The CNIC IIF (CNIC International Incoming Fellowships for Young Group Leaders) project was designed to support European-wide mobility and strengthen individual researchers' competences. Its particular goal was to help them acquire the skills needed for advanced independent positions in biomedical research. Depending on the applicant's experience and profile, the programme proposed Starting Fellowships or Advanced Fellowships. CNIC IIF offered a total of 24 positions for in-depth study on any topic relevant to the Center's overall focus on cardiovascular research. Six fellowships were offered per year for both positions, while the duration of the fellowship was 3 years. The programme targeted experienced researchers who had a doctoral degree, with at least 3 years of postdoctoral training and who could fill a particular mobility requirement. They also should not have resided or carried out their main activity in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years prior to their application. For the incoming mobility type there was one call every year for four Starting Fellowships and two Advanced Fellowships. Through these fellowships, the main objective of the programme was to provide training and career development, with the chosen research project being tailored to individual needs. This tailored approach aimed at enhancing independent research and skills needed for leading projects, management and organisation, collaboration building and student supervision, among others. The 24 fellowship offers were published on the CNIC website and also advertised in international scientific journals and on relevant web portals. The project ran over a period of four years, until the end of September 2015.
