Organic substances and their potential substitutes
The European Commission is calling for tenders for a study to cover the implementation and development of Internet-based information exchange between Member States, the European Commission and the activities concerned on the use of organic substances and their potential substitutes, in line with Article 7 of Directive 1999/13/EC. This article requires that the Commission ensures that an exchange of information takes place between the Member States and the sectors concerned on the use of organic solvents in certain activities and installations and their possible substitutes. This information exchange shall consider: - the questions of fitness of use, potential effects on human health and occupational exposure in particular; and, - potential effects on the environment, and the economic consequences - in particular the costs and benefits of the options available. The study will be used to help draw up recommendations on the use of the substances and on the techniques which have the least potential effects on air, water, soil, the ecosystem, and human health.
