The following RTD-related topics are among subjects tabled for discussion during the European Parliament sitting of 21-25 June 1993: - A report from the Legal Committee on the extension of copyright legislation to databases to prevent unauthorized extraction of parts of the base for commercial purposes. The Commission's proposal on this subject (COM(92) 24 of 15.4.1992) will receive its first reading under the cooperation procedure; - A report from the Environment Committee on the Commission's proposal for a Council Decision on stabilizing CO2 emissions at 1990 levels by the year 1992 (COM(92) 508 final of 15.12.1992) in conformity with the 1992 Framework Convention on Climatic Change (Rio. 14.6.1992). The Committee wishes to have a much stronger commitment on the part of national governments to meet the target levels together with specific proposals enabling the developing countries to comply; - The Women's Rights Committee will call on the Commission to guarantee the continuation of the IRIS programme of demonstration projects for the vocational training of women; - A report from the Transport Committee on the harmonization of air traffic management equipment systems (concerning the proposal for a Council Directive, COM(92) 342 of 28.7.1992). While supporting this necessary short term improvement, the Committee believes that it should not impede the establishment of a single air traffic management system and a single Community Civil Aviation Authority; - The Environment Committee will report on the Commission's proposal for a Council Decision on the ratification of the Convention on Biodiversity (signed on behalf of the Community and the Member States at the Earth Summit, Rio, June 1992). The proposal is supported by the Committee which, however, wishes to have deleted an interpretative declaration on the protection of intellectual property included in an Annex to the proposal.
