Six new vice-presidents for the European Commission
The representatives of the governments of the Member States of the European Communities have appointed six vice-presidents of the European Commission, effective as of 1 July 1993 until the entry into force of the Treaty on European Union signed in Maastricht on 7 February 1991 or until 5 January 1995 at the latest (Council Decision 93/382/Euratom,ECSC, EEC of 30.6.1993). They are: - Mr. Henning Christophersen (economic, financial and monetary affairs); - Dr. Manuel Marin (cooperation and development); - Mr. Martin Bangemann (industrial affairs, information technologies and telecommunications); - Sir Leon Brittan (external economic affairs, commercial policy); - Mr. Karel Van Miert (competition policy, administration and personnel); - Prof. Antonio Ruberti (science, research and development, human resources, education, training and youth). New articles in the Treaty on European Union, when it is ratified, will enable the Commission to appoint one or two vice-presidents from among its members.
