EU-US biotechnology research: a decade of collaboration
The European Commission has published the report 'The EC-US Task Force on Biotechnology Research'. The report covers collaboration between 1990, when the EC-US task force on biotechnology research was established, and 2000. It includes a preface by European Research Commissioner Philippe Busquin and Neal Lane, director of the Office of science and technology policy at the executive office of the President of the USA. Included are interviews with members of the task force and articles on bioinformatics, molecular tools for ecology, animal genomes, environmental biotechnology, immunology and biotechnology, neuroinformatics, marine biotechnology, nanobiotechnology and the future of biology and biotechnology research. An interview with Bruno Hansen, director of the life sciences coordination directorate at the European Commission's Research DG provides an overview of the Commission's future role in biotechnology research.
