The Hague-based Europol (European law enforcement organisation) has opened its staff recruitment programme for 2001 in the field of information and communication technology (ICT). Applications are invited to fill a number of positions arising from the creation of new posts and vacancies within existing posts. In 2001, Europol's ICT unit will have 34 members of staff providing a range of services from system operations and user support to project management, application development and external system procurement. There are some 250 users within Europol headquarters, plus direct and indirect users within the Europol national units in the EU. Europe uses innovative and leading edge technologies to enable fast, effective and secure access to, and enrichment of, information in a unique multilingual and multi-disciplinary international law enforcement environment. Positions are available for a group leader, first officer; second officer, administrative assistant and office manager. Net monthly salaries (after tax and other deductions) are likely to be in the range of 3000 to 6000 euro and exceptionally higher depending on the skills offered and the position occupied. Subject to staffing needs at the unit at the time. It is likely that expertise will be required in one or more of the following domains; - ICT security; - data centre operations; - secure telecommunications (voice and data); - user support (help desk and technical); - ICT training; - database engineering; - application development; - web services; - project management; - technical documentation; - administrative support (including documentation management and financial control within an IT environment); - linguistic administration; - public procurement.
