The CORDIS database "RTD-Projects" now contains information on almost all projects resulting from the first calls for proposals made within the specific RTD programmes of the Community's Third Framework Programme for research and technological development. The most recent RTD-Projects update includes all projects for which the contracts are finalized to date. A limited number of projects, still in negotiation with the Commission, will be added to the database as soon as the agreements are completed. In particular, projects are under negotiation in the Biotechnology (BIOTECH) and Agro-Industrial Research (AIR) programmes. The majority of second calls for tenders within the specific programmes took place during the first half of 1993 and a number of these, such as MAST 2 and BIOTECH, are still open. It is expected that projects resulting from these calls may be in the database later in 1993 (including projects from ESPRIT 3, DELTA 2, AIM 2, DRIVE 2 and LIBRARIES). Also included on the database are projects under programmes related to Community RTD but not falling under the Framework Programme, such as the THERMIE, IMPACT, COMETT and TIDE programmes. In addition, data already within the database is being completed and brought up to date. This process includes the revision of DG XII projects descriptions and the addition of new data. Records are updated and new records added as soon as information on currently active or new projects becomes available to CORDIS. Project information includes the title, a summary of objectives, starting date and duration, status, the name of the prime contractor plus a listing of the partners involved, and contact person. RTD-Projects provides a rapid guide to individual research and technological development projects financed wholly or partly by the European Communities from 1986 to the present. Also included on the database are initiatives, studies and demonstrations not necessarily involving contracts but benefiting from Community financing or coordination, either within a Commission programme or in support of Community RTD policy. A continued increase in the use of this CORDIS service emphasizes the utility of pan-European electronic information and dissemination in all fields of RTD.
