The Environment Directorate-general is calling for tenders for a review of and, if appropriate, proposal for changes to the 'averaging and banking system,' which is included in the proposal for an amendment of Directives 97/68/EC to cover also small spark ignition engines. This should include: - possible technologies to reduce emissions of particles from small spark ignition engines, notably two-stroke engines. - a feasibility study on a third stage of emission limits for compression-ignition engines with a power output between 18 and 560 kW; - a feasibility study in the possible extension of the scope to cover railway locomotives and ships (5 to 30 years) and in an intermediate (5 to 10 years) perspective.
