The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is a Spanish biomedical institute located at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) among several other biomedical research institutions. The CRG has state-of-the-art infrastructure and advanced training facilities providing access to one of the largest animal facilities in Europe. In partnership with the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), the CRG is working on elucidating the human genome for applications in disease diagnosis, prevention and treatment. A whopping 29 research groups are working on understanding gene regulation, stem cells and cancer using a systems biology approach and bioinformatics. The EU-funded 'CRG international interdisciplinary postdoctoral programme' (INTERPOD) project is an interdisciplinary postdoctoral fellowship programme at the CRG. This programme offers 10 fellowships with a duration of 2 years. Talented postdoctoral candidates are recruited on the basis of merit after international peer review. The programme hosts about 100 postdoctoral scientists. The INTERPOD candidates participate in interdisciplinary research projects at two or more CRG laboratories as part of the CRG postdoctoral programme. INTERPOD fellows also receive top-notch training through high-profile CRG/PRBB seminars and conferences, practical training courses, and complementary skills and career development courses. Important skills such as grant and scientific writing, leadership, intellectual property, methodology of biomedical publications and biosafety training are developed through these courses. By project-end, INTERPOD fellows should have improved their technical know-how and communication skills, rendering them capable of independent research. This should boost their chances for success in their field of expertise and raise the standards of European research.
