The European Commission has announced prior information of a call for tenders for a study to evaluate the effectiveness and coherence of intellectual property rules applicable to public sector funded research and development (R&D). This is intended to help the Commission in evaluating research policy options aimed at promoting more dynamic private investment in the context of the European research area initiative. In this regard, the Commission identifies intellectual property rules as an important issue to be considered in European research policy. It stresses in particular the need for more efficient and coherent IPR rules applicable in publicly funded research. It also emphasises the importance of making Europe more attractive for researchers and research investment. The value of the contract is estimated at a maximum of 300,000 euro.
