On 18 June, the Minister-president of the government of the Brussels capital region, François-Xavier de Donnea, will highlight the main research priorities of the Belgian Presidency of the European Union, which will start on 1 July. In an innovative move, Mr de Donnea will be the first regional head in a presiding country to be the head of the European Research council. The five research priorities that have been set out so far are the following: - speeding up the establishment of the European research and innovation area - adopting a joint position of the European union's next Framework programme - making Europe into a model area open to the world - advancing the achievements in European space policy - strengthening the relationship between science and society An indication of what is to come will come be presented in the form of the Ishango project, which is designed to increase the awareness of the general public and young people in particular to the workings of research and science. CORDIS will be assisting the Belgian presidency by switching live a new service on 1 July, the first day of the presidency. The site will be at cordis.europa.eu/belgium and will be a key source of information for all the developments, policies, news and events surrounding the presidency for its six month term. Mr de Donnea has already endorsed the new service, saying that it will supply concise information on the work of the Belgian presidency of the Research Council and on concrete actions and initiatives launched during the presidency. was unneces
