A total of 571 proposals were received in response to the two calls for proposals for the Measurements and Testing Programme. 368 proposals were received for Areas 1, 2 and 3 (requesting a total funding of ECU 110 million) while 203 proposals for Areas 4 were received (requesting a total funding of ECU 114 million). Of the 350 eligible proposals for Areas 1, 2 and 3, 75 were evaluated as outstanding (A1) and another 75 as excellent but requiring minor modification (A2). Because of limited budget, only a part of these will be funded initially. Of the 191 eligible proposals for Area 4, 27 were considered A1, and, once again, because of limited budget, only 12 of these will be funded. A series of additional projects from Areas 1, 2 and 3 will be funded before the end of 1993 as well as projects selected from Area 4. Moreover, additional funding has been made available which will allow funding for all of the remaining A1 projects to be funded in 1994 as well as part of the A2 proposals after reevaluation.
