Two calls for proposals were issued during 1992 in the context of the specific research and technological development programme in the field of measurements and testing (1992-1994). Both of these appeared in Official Journal C 178 of 15.7.1992. A total of 203 proposals for Area 4 were received (requesting a total funding of ECU 114 million). Of these, 191 were judged eligible and 27 were rated as outstanding (A1) on evaluation. Of the 350 eligible proposals for Areas 1, 2 and 3, 75 were evaluated A1. Two phases of evaluation were undertaken. Because of limited budget, not all A1 projects were selected to receive funding during 1993. However, additional funding has been made available which will permit all of the remaining A1 projects to be funded in 1994, as well as part of the A2 proposals after reevaluation. A list of projects accepted in the second phase of negotiations following the two calls for proposals is given in the Text (TXT) field of this News item. Those projects accepted in the first phase of negotiations (1992) are listed on the CORDIS RTD-Projects database, and also in an insert of the first issue of the "Measurements and Testing Newsletter" (available on request from the given address). Further information can be obtained directly from the project leaders or from the programme management staff in Brussels. The projects are now theoretically closed to additional participation; coordinators may, however, accept additional participants in their projects providing that they cover their own costs. It should be noted that a third call for proposals is expected shortly. The call is scheduled for publication on 15.12.1993 under the system of fixed dates (four per year) for the publication of calls for proposals from the specific programmes within the Framework Programme. The closing date will be during April 1994.
