China considers joining international fusion project
China is thought to be considering joining the ITER project, the venture to develop an international thermonuclear experimental reactor which currently involves the EU, Japan, Russia and Canada. Chinese officials are to meet with negotiators from the other participating countries after the Chinese Ministry for Science and Technology wrote to senior negotiators expressing an interest in the project. The USA has also indicated that it is considering rejoining the $4 billion (4.07 billion euro) project, which it left in 1999. No final decision has however been made.
