By the end of 2002, the number of Western Europeans with broadband Internet access at home had climbed to six million, or seven per cent, according to a new report by Forrester Research. Growth is however now being driven by southern Europe, with Italy's broadband access rate having reached five per cent. By contrast, growth in Germany has slowed down. In November 2002, a survey showed broadband connection to be highest in Germany, with 39 per cent of households having a connection. Germany and Sweden together were some way ahead of other countries in Europe, but were followed by the Netherlands with 20 per cent, Spain and Italy with 18 per cent and France with 17 per cent.
