The Commission of the European Communities invites proposals for research and technology development projects and accompanying measures in the context of the specific programme in the field of measurements and testing. The work programme sets out the detailed objectives and types of actions to be undertaken, and the financial arrangements to be made for them. Eligible organizations are invited to submit proposals relating to: - Area 2: Pre-normative research on problems of sectoral testing (support for standards); - Area 3: Development of common means of calibration (reference materials, transfer standards or calibration methods) which are required for the application of written standards, for use by industry or for the purposes of trade. The RTD activities will be undertaken, in general, as shared-cost research projects. In addition, some supporting measures will be taken as concerted actions and accompanying measures as referred to in the work programme. The estimated budget available for this call for proposals is ECU 12 million. The Community's financial contribution will normally be no more than: - 100% of the coordination and materials costs for intercomparisons; - 50% of the costs required for the final phase of reference material certification; - 50% of the costs required for the development of measurement methods. In the case of universities and similar institutions, the Community may bear up to 100% of the additional costs. Detailed information about procedures for the submission of proposals, the contract that will be established with successful proposers, plus background material on the research topics are available from: Commission of the European Communities DG XII, Directorate C Measurements and Testing Programme 75 rue Montoyer (3/15) B-1040 Brussels Tel +32-2-2959313; Fax +32-2-2958072
