Knowledge is key to bridging gap with West, hears Slovene conference
The vice president of Slovenia's Chamber of Commerce (GZS), Mateja Mesl, has said that her country must invest in knowledge and innovation if it wishes to bridge the development gap with Western Europe. The key to doing this in Slovenia is forging closer links between companies, she added. Integration between companies is the solution to the increasing complexity of products and services, as well as to bolstering investment in research and innovation, Ms Mesl explained at an annual Business Week conference. This view was supported by Stojan Petric, chairman of commutator manufacturer Kolektor. As Slovenia's workforce is becoming more expensive, the country must look elsewhere to maintain a competitive advantage. If Slovenia is to attract foreign investment it must base its future development on research and innovation, he said.
