The European Commission has published a call for tenders for a study on the strategic use of patents and its implications for enterprise and competition policies. The study is meant to further advance theoretical and empirical insights into the strategic use of patents in the European Union from a competition, enterprise as well as welfare policy point of view. The aim is to provide a reasoned estimate of the importance of the strategic use of patents for the European economy and the identification of conditions that render sectors more susceptible to anti-competitive uses of patents. In a further step, the study should provide proposals on how to prevent anti-competitive uses of patents while securing an adequate reward for innovative undertakings. For further information, please contact: European Commission DG Enterprise and Industry Geneviève Pons-Deladrière Avenue Auderghem 45 B-1049 Brussels Tel: +32 2 298 4043 Fax: +32 2 296 6814 E-mail: Entr-Competition-Regional@cec.eu.int.
