COST launches open call for proposals
COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) has launched an open call for proposals for research networks. COST is inviting researchers throughout Europe to submit proposals for research networks, and to use this opportunity to exchange knowledge and embark upon new projects. The organisation invites proposals for new COST Actions contributing to the scientific, technical, economic, cultural or societal development of Europe. Proposals playing a precursor role for other European programmes, and involving ideas from young researchers, are especially welcome. The first closing date for preliminary proposals is 31 May 2006. 'Inviting the European scientific community at large to take advantage of the COST scheme for the first time is an important step to foster the development of the [European Research Area],' says Professor Francesco Fedi, President of the COST Committee of Senior Officials. 'By encouraging new groups to networks their ideas and projects we want to actively contribute to strengthening the European competitiveness and attractiveness of joining forces,' adds Dr Martin Grabert, Director of the COST Office. COST brings together research teams in different countries working on specific topics. It finances networking of nationally funded activities by supporting meetings, conferences, short term scientific exchanges and outreach activities. COST does not fund research itself, but is currently supporting more than 200 Actions. Every year approximately 50 new Actions will be approved. On average financial support amounts to 90,000 euro per annum for four years. For further information, please consult the following web address: http://www.cost.esf.org(opens in new window) or contact COST E-mail: opencall@cost.esf.org
