The European Commission's Environment Directorate-General has issued a call for tenders for a study on the remaining uses of mercury in the European Community. The aim is to identify the possibilities for further reducing mercury use in products and applications and for reducing the amounts of mercury already in society. The expected results of the study are an overview of the situation in the EU-27 plus Norway and Switzerland, and consideration of whether further actions/legislation at EU level are appropriate for: - mercury use in products and applications; - mercury in existing products and other uses already circulating in society. The work will include: - an overview of which products and surplus mercury from processes are still in society; and recommendations on actions to reduce products containing mercury already in society; - an overview of where mercury is still in use in products and processes; possible substitutes today and in the future; and recommendations for further actions/legislation including cost-benefit analysis for the five to seven most important product groups. For further information, please contact: European Commission Directorate-General Environment Markets Team, F.2 - Finance BU-5 00/169 B-1049 Brussels Tel. +32 2 296 0008 Fax +32 2 299 4449 E-mail: env-tenders@ec.europa.eu To see the full details of the call, please consult the following web address: http://ted.europa.eu/udl?uri=TED:NOTICE:083619-2007:TEXT:EN:HTML(opens in new window)
